SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati?s men?s golf team prepares for the upcoming Conference USA Tournament at the Billiken Invitational, to be held April 11-12 at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. The tournament, hosted by C-USA foe Saint Louis will be the Bearcats? final tune-up for the C-USA Tournament April 18-20 in Gulfport, Miss. The Bearcats enter the tournament coming off a season-best second place finish at last week?s UC/UD Invitational.

PREVIEWING THE TOURNAMENT: A total of 18 men?s golf squads will converge on the Gateway National Golf Links for the 2005 Billiken Invitational. The 54-hole, two-day tournament kicks off on Monday (April 11), beginning with 36 holes in a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with a second 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. Joining the Bearcats and the host Billikens will be teams from Austin Peay, Bradley, Creighton, Dayton, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, UMKC, Missouri Baptist, Murray State, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, SE Missouri State, Tennessee-Martin, Western Illinois and Wisconsin-Green Bay. The Bearcats finished sixth in last year?s 12-team edition of the tournament, with Southern Illinois grabbing the team title.

LAST TIME OUT: Behind a second round 74 from Joe Young and a 76 from Geoff Newman, the Bearcats finished a season-best second at the UC/UD Men?s Golf Invitational. Newman led the Bearcats, setting a season-best by tying for second individually with a final score of 149. Young finished just three strokes behind Newman, tied for fifth overall. In the team standings, UC missed taking the team title by just two strokes. IUPUI won the team title with a score of 604, while Dayton was third at 611. Junior John Clodfelder also finished in the top-10 with a final score of 154.

WELCOME ABOARD: The Bearcat roster has grown by one with the addition of freshman Kyle Pinger. Pinger joins the Bearcats from Cincinnati?s Turpin High School where he was the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Player of the Year as a senior. He has played in each of the Bearcats? last two tournaments, finishing 12th at the UC/UD Invitational. Pinger recorded a low round of 78 on two separate occasions.
