Maxiell Named UC Basketball MVP

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Jason Maxiell claimed the most trophy hardware, including team most valuable player honors, at the University of Cincinnati's awards banquet.
The 6-7 senior from Carrollton, Texas, who led the Bearcats in scoring with his 15.3-point average, field goal percentage (.543), blocked shots (91) and steals (33), also earned the WXIX Excellence Award and the Ball of Courage Award in addition to his second consecutive MVP award.
Nick Williams, a 6-3 senior from Arlington, Texas, was the recipient of the Oscar Robertson Award for his work ethic and team dedication. Junior forward James White (Kensington, Md.) won the Defensive Player of the Year Award and was honored for leading the team in assists with his 3.1 average. Junior forward Eric Hicks (Greensboro, N.C.) was honored with the Most Improved Award and also received a trophy for leading the team in rebounding with his 9.0 average.
The Bearcats compiled a 25-8 record in 2004-05, finishing in a tie for second place in Conference USA, and made their 14th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In the final polls, Cincinnati was ranked No. 23 by the Associated Press and No. 25 by ESPN/USA Today.
