SETTING THE SCENE: The Bearcat rowing team travels to Morgantown, West Virginia on Saturday, April 30 for its final regular season regatta. The University of Cincinnati will go up against future BIG EAST opponent West Virginia. Racing starts at 9 a.m.

PREVIEWING THE REGATTA: West Virginia competed in the BIG EAST Championships at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday, April 24. The Mountaineers placed sixth in the varsity eight with a time of 8:55.38 and placed eighth overall in the conference competition.

REGATTA REMATCH: The Bearcats and Mountaineers last met in April 2002 when Cincinnati hosted a seven-team competition at Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park. West Virginia placed second, while Cincinnati finished third in the novice eight. UC recorded a time of 7:34 and earned the victory in the varsity eight, beating second-place West Virginia by six seconds.

SOGGY SITUATIONS: Cincinnati?s regatta against Kansas and Buffalo was cancelled due to inclement weather last Saturday. The cancellation caused both of the Bearcats? home competitions to be rained out this spring. The April 2 contest against Indiana, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, and Louisville was also called off due to rain.

LAST TIME OUT: Notre Dame, the Bearcats? future BIG EAST opponent, took all eight titles in South Bend on April 17. The Bearcats? varsity four?s time of 7:49.99 wasn?t enough as the Fighting Irish bettered the Bearcat squad by posting a time of 7:40.40. In the varsity eight race, Notre Dame was again triumphant by finishing in 6:34.10. The Bearcats recorded a time of 6:44.20.

UP NEXT: The University of Cincinnati rowing team will have two weeks off while they prepare for NCAA Regionals. The competition will be May 14 and 15 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
