The University of Cincinnati tennis team dropped two Conference USA matches this weekend, falling at DePaul, 6-1, before dropping a hard-fought, 4-3, decision at Marquette.
Against the Blue Demons (13-6), Julie Klauck claimed the Bearcats? lone win of the day, taking out Brenda Leung at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-4. DePaul won the other five matches in straight-sets and lost only five games in sweeping the doubles point.
On Sunday, UC (4-11) opened by taking the doubles point, thanks to wins by Hannah Hinton and Samantha Liu at No. 1 and Madison Reasoner and Cristina Reyes at No. 3, both by 8-6 scores.
In singles play, five of the six matches went to three sets and in all five cases the winner came back to win the final two sets. The Bearcats got a win at the top spot by Reyes, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Callan Smith. Jill Klauck picked up the other victory, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 over Elsemieke Dokter. The Golden Eagles prevailed at the other spots, clinching the match with the closest win of the day when Erin Watkins topped Hannah Hinton at No. 4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
UC will face another Conference USA opponent on the road next weekend at UAB on Saturday, April 9 at 11 a.m. CT.
