Jo Young has qualified for regional competition in both the shot put and hammer throw

IRVING, Texas -- University of Cincinnati senior track and field student-athlete Jo Young (London, Ohio/London) garnered her second Conference USA Athlete of the Week award, announced today by the conference office. Young also earned the award for her performance the week ending on March 20.

Young had a dominating performance on April 30 at the National City Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky. She won three events, breaking two of her own school records, and qualified for NCAA regional competition in the hammer throw. The Bearcats' record-holder in the shot put, Young won the National City title with a UC-record 48' 8-3/4". She won her fifth hammer throw crown of the season with a 183' 0" heave, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Mid-East Regionals. Young also won the discus with a personal-best 152' 10" toss.

Currently leading C-USA in the hammer throw, Young also holds the third-best marks in both the shot put and discus.

Young and the Bearcats will look for conference supremacy at the 2005 C-USA Championships on May 12-14 in Houston, Texas.
