Logan Parker had two hits vs. Miami.

CINCINNATI, Ohio?Miami?s Matt Erwood limited Cincinnati to two hits over six innings, leading the RedHawks to a 5-2 win over the Bearcats on Tuesday night in the UC Baseball Stadium. The contest was the opener of back-to-back rivalry games for the Bearcats which will host Xavier on Wednesday night.

Erwood allowed just an RBI double by Logan Parker in the fourth inning, as he improved to 5-1 on the season. Justin Minges (1-5) got off to a rocky start on the mound for the Bearcats, but allowed just four runs in 5.1 innings of work. Miami is now 32-13 on the year, while the Bearcats are 21-26.

Parker collected two of the Bearcats? five hits on the night, including his team-leading 15th double of the year. John Slone had three hits for Miami, while Jon Franzese had two hits and two RBI.

The RedHawks came out of the gates firing, getting a pair of first inning runs. Ryne Robinson was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, and then came around to score on Brandon Hiller?s single as MU executed a perfect hit and run. With two outs, Geoff Orr drove a single through the left side that plated Hiller.

Miami tacked on run number three of the night in the fourth as Franzese led off with a homer over the left center field wall. UC got the run back in the last of the fourth when Parker drilled a double to right center to score Mark Haske. Miami rounded out its scoring in the seventh when Robinson tripled off the right field wall. Franzese came around to score on the play, but Eric Radley was thrown out on a relay from Brian Beltz to Mark Muscenti to Jim Olds.

UC had an ample opportunity to score in the seventh, scoring once, but ultimately leaving the bases loaded. Parker led off with a single and one out later, Jack Nelson and Olds tallied back-to-back singles to load the bases. With lefty Bobby Oberschlake on the mound, UC pinch-hit for the left-handed swinging Beltz with Kevin Schrader. But when Miami brought in right-hander Jeff Day, the Bearcats again countered, bringing lefty Dustin Alvey to the plate. Alvey grounded a ball to first that Paul Frietch couldn?t make a play on allowing Parker to score. After a strikeout of Erik Eitel, Sam Shorts came to the mound and promptly induced LaFringe Hayes to bounce into an inning-ending fielder?s choice.

?I thought Miami just did some things to get runs that we weren?t able to do,? said Bearcat head coach Brian Cleary. ?They pitched a little better than us, but I thought Minges put us in a position to win. I think too that we are doing better at the plate and tonight we hit some balls hard that just didn?t fall.?

As stated, the Bearcats will be back at work tomorrow night, hosting Xavier. Nick Buscemi will get the start on the mound for UC.
