Mark Muscenti was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team.

CINCINNATI, Ohio---University of Cincinnati junior baseball player Mark Muscenti (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second team for his success on and off the field.

Muscenti is a chemical engineering major carrying a 3.527 GPA. He has enjoyed a career year in 2005, hitting a career-best .303 with personal bests of 11 doubles, two home runs and 25 RBI. Already the school leader in career hit by pitch, Muscenti leads Conference USA with 20 this season. He has also played nearly flawless baseball at second base, playing every inning of UC?s 48 contests and committing just three errors. Muscenti?s play has helped the Bearcats to a ranking of second nationally in double plays per game and 17th in fielding percentage.

District IV, of which Cincinnati falls into, consists of NCAA Division I universities in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.

This year?s team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.
