CINCINNATI, Ohio ? The University of Cincinnati men?s soccer team has released its schedule for the 2005 season, its first in the BIG EAST. The Bearcats will play nine matches at Gettler Stadium, including three against 2004 NCAA College Cup participants.
UC will open its 2005 schedule at home against local foes Wright State (Sept. 2) and Dayton (Sept. 4). The Bearcats inaugural BIG EAST match will come against a familiar face as they travel to Louisville to sqaure off against the rival Cardinals on Sept. 7. The first home conference match will feature 2004 BIG EAST Tournament champion and NCAA participant Connecticut on Sept. 16 at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats will host crosstown-rival Xavier on Sept. 28. The home slate concludes with a league clash against former Conference USA foe DePaul on Oct. 26. The BIG EAST Tournament opens on campus sites on Nov. 2.
?This will be a very challenging schedule for us,? said head coach Hylton Dayes. ?Bringing a young team into our first year in the BIG EAST;
we are going to have our work cut out for us. We always try to put together the most challenging schedule possible while giving the team a chance for success and an opportunity to play in the postseason.?
The Bearcats own a 97-72-23 (.565) all-time record against its 2005 opponents. Xavier has been the most frequent opponent for UC, which owns a 20-8-5 (.682) record against its intra-city rival. The 2005 season will mark the first time UC will meet Providence, St. John?s and Villanova on the soccer field.
?I am excited about the home schedule,? Dayes added. ?Fans can look forward to a high level of play at Gettler Stadium this fall.?
Tickets for all home soccer matches are available at the gate for $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 12 and under. Groups of 15 or more can attend for just $1 per person by calling in advance. Contact the Atheltic Ticket Office at 513-556-CATS for more information.
