PROVIDENCE, R.I. ? The BIG EAST Conference has completed the home/away opponents for the 2005-06 women?s basketball season, as announced by the league office. As of July 1, the BIG EAST Conference will grow to a 16-team league with the additions of the University of Cincinnati, DePaul University, the University of Louisville, Marquette University and the University of South Florida.
The new format for league play will be a 16-game schedule. Each team will play 16 Conference games, playing all 15 opponents once, including a mirror team twice. Georgetown will be UC?s ?mirror? opponent. Each member will play eight home and eight away games.
For their inaugural season in the league, the Bearcats will host rival Louisville, as well as Notre Dame, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, St. John?s and USF. Rutgers reached the Elite 8 last year and finished ranked as high as seventh in the nation, while Notre Dame finished the year at No. 11.
UC?s road contests will include national power Connecticut, DePaul, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, Syracuse, and Villanova.
With Georgetown as the repeat opponent for the Bearcats, UC will face Louisville just once in the regular season for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign. The Bearcats have played a total of just 10 games in their history against current members of the BIG EAST and own a 6-4 record.
