Three Bearcats compete on day one

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Jo Young (London, Ohio/London) and Steve Kahle (Spencerville, Ohio/Spencerville) were UC's top finishers at the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships today at Indiana University's Robert C. Haugh Track Complex. The meet was suspended due to inclement weather with four events remaining.
Young, UC's record holder in the shot put and hammer throw, placed 21st in the hammer with a heave of 169' 3". She will compete tomorrow in the shot.
Conference USA champion Kahle finished 23rd in the shot, posting a 53' 3-3/4".
The final Bearcat competitor, Andrew Smith (Coshocton, Ohio/Coshocton) missed on his first three attempts at 6' 9" in the high jump.
Saturday's events begin at 11 a.m. with the men's long jump. UC's Chandler Groves (Payne, Ohio/Wayne Trace) will compete in the event, while Renee Hein (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy) (high jump), Chris Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) (pole vault), and Young (shot put) will round out the Bearcat participants.
