Jimmy Mount is ranked 22nd in the nation in the decathlon

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Four University of Cincinnati track and field athletes have qualified and been officially accepted to participate in the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif. Ben Haber (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario) and Jimmy Mount (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) will represent the UC men, while Jo Young (London, Ohio/London) and Renee Hein (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy) represent the women.

Decathletes Mount and Haber are ranked 22nd and 23rd, respectively, in the nation. Haber won the C-USA Championship, marking the sixth UC title in the event in the conference?s 10-year history.

Young, UC?s record holder in the indoor and outdoor shot put as well as the hammer throw, placed fifth at the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships in the shot, qualifying for the national meet. Young hold each of the top 10 marks in UC history in both the indoor and outdoor shot put. She has won a combined 19 individual titles this year between the indoor and outdoor seasons. Young was twice named C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Female Athlete of the Week this season.

Hein is ranked 18th nationally in the high jump. She finished in a sixth-place tie at the Mid-East Regional Championships, but earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Championships based on her high national ranking. The 2005 C-USA Indoor high jump champion, Hein finished second at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.
