Five UC Rowers Earn Academic Honors

CINCINNATI, Ohio---Five University of Cincinnati rowers have earned National Scholar-Athlete Awards, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced. UC?s Jodi Baumgarth, Linsey Berberich, Taryn Dyle, Karen Kolodzaike and Stacy Tanner were among the 142 Division I student-athletes from 49 schools recognized for their success in the classroom and on the water.

Baumgarth (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) is one of three Bearcats to receive the award for a second consecutive year. She was a senior this year, carrying a 3.74 GPA in health sciences. Berberich (Ft. Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) was also a senior, majoring in marketing and holding a 3.61 GPA. Dyle (Grosse Point Woods, Mich./North), a junior, is another two-year winner and has a 3.75 GPA in industrial design. Kolodzaike (Toledo, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) was honored for the second time during her senior year. She majored in graphic design at UC and has a 3.52 GPA. Tanner (Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada/Luther College) was the final multiple winner of the award during her final collegiate season. She was a dietetics major with a 3.77 GPA.

The National Scholar-Athlete award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains. The criteria for selection includes good standing within the individual?s institution, athletic standing of at least a sophomore, participation in at least 75% of the season?s races in one of the squad?s varsity boats and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 through the fall semester of the current season.
