IRVING, Texas -- University of Cincinnati volleyball standout Julie DuPont has been named the Conference USA Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a recipient of one of seven Postgraduate Scholarship Awards, the league announced on Thursday.

C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport. The award is based on academic achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service. The conference annually presents seven $5,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives.

DuPont (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) shares the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor with Heather Watts of Memphis. Both were named to the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team as selected by CoSIDA. DuPont was a first team member while Watts was on the second team. DuPont has been accepted to the Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she will pursue a Master?s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

These honors add to the enormous list of accolades which DuPont has earned during her career. She is a three-time Academic All-American and was named UC?s top senior female student-athlete earlier this month. DuPont made her mark as the first-ever All-American from the Bearcat volleyball program.

During her career, DuPont rewrote the UC record book and twice was named C-USA?s Player of the Year. She holds the school record for kills in both a season and a career and is listed in the top-10 of numerous other season and career lists. DuPont helped the Bearcats to a C-USA championship in 2003 and NCAA Tournament appearances in three of her four seasons.
