CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati's football season opener on Thursday, Sept. 1 vs. Eastern Michigan will be Bearcat Bobblehead Night.

The first 5,000 fans in entering the 7 p.m. contest at Nippert Stadium will receive a special BIG EAST commemorative Bearcat Bobblehead.

UC will have its usual array of activities before the Eastern Michigan game and all home games to provide plenty of entertainment.

Cattitude on the Commons, which takes place on the Sigma Sigma Commons, north of Nippert Stadium and adjacent to most of the parking garages, offers an alternative to tailgating. Features include reasonably-priced food and beverages, music and visits by the Bearcat, the UC Band, and the UC Cheerleaders.

The Bearcat Kids Zone, which takes place in the UC Baseball Stadium, is tailored to the young Bearcat fans and features inflatable games, music, face painting and concessions.

All activities begin two and a half hours before each Bearcat home game.

Tailgating Available Tailgating, part of the fun of attending college football games, is available to UC football fans at several locations. There are two on-campus lots for tailgating, the Corry Lot located next to the UC Baseball Stadium, and the Daniels Lot located just below Corry Lot. Passes are sold on a season basis for $100.

The are also five off-campus lots which provide a total of 500 tailgating spaces at Schiel School Lot (Vine and Daniels streets), Bogart's Lot (Glendora St. and Corry Blvd.), Martino's Lot (behind Martino's Restaurant on Short Vine), LaRosa's Lot (adjacent to LaRosa's on Short Vine) and the Benchmark Lot (on Short Vine across from the Post Office). Spaces are sold on a season and game basis. For information, call 513-221-8487.

Tailgating lots open four hours prior to kickoff and close one hour after the conclusion of the game.

Nippert Renovations Fans will observe several changes in Nippert Stadium, all leading to enhanced decorum for Bearcat home football games. • A new 19-foot by 53-foot video board, with over twice the display area of the previous board, has been installed in the revamped scoreboard structure, which also contains a team statistics panel and an 8-foot by 83-foot message center. Elements of the old video board will be installed in the Baseball Stadium and Gettler Track/Soccer Stadium, benefitting those playing venues. • New permanent seating has been constructed in the North endzone. The new seating structure also contains a full locker room for the visiting team, a first aid room and a halftime room for the Bearcats. • The FieldTurf playing surface has been replaced, with all markings and logos inlaid in the new artificial surface. • Entry and access to the stadium has been improved, with all barriers removed from the West, Northwest and South sides. The stadium now opens to Bearcat Plaza, outside of the Tangeman University Center, on the West side, adding to the atmosphere. Access via the East side is limited by the construction of the Richard E. Lindner Athletic Center.
