FOR STARTERS:

The women's soccer team will hit the road for two non-conference contests this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 9, UC will battle at 7 p.m. ET in . The Bearcats will then head north for a meeting with on Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff from is set for 1 p.m. ET.

NIKE-FLYER INVITATIONAL WRAPUP:

earned a 2-2 tie with No. 10 Ohio State in the opener of the Dayton Nike-Flyer Invitational on Sept. 2, in . UC came out firing as freshman Jenn Johannigman scored her second goal of the season just 1:45 into the match. extended its lead in the 28th minute when freshman Chelsea Kindschuh tallied her first career goal. Kindschuh fired a shot just inside the far post from 20 yards out, beating OSU keeper Shannon Neely to stretch the UC lead to 2-0. (2-0-1) got itself back into the match with a Jennifer Greenwood goal at the 40:28 mark. The equalizer came in the 75th minute after Lisa Collison took a pass from Emily Francis and beat Bearcat goalkeeper Sherry Slye for her third goal of the season.

On Sept. 4, scored a late goal to propel the host Flyers to a 2-1 victory against in the tournament finale. UC scored early on 's home field, as sophomore Andrea Haney collected a rebound off the post after a Kindschuh shot and put it home to stake the Bearcats to a 1-0 lead just 5:17 into the contest. grabbed the momentum just before the half, when Natalia Walters headed in a Courtney Sirmans pass in the 43rd minute to tie the match at one. Sirmans scored in the 89th minute to give the lead and send the Flyers to just their fourth win all-time against . The Bearcats still hold an 11-4-1 record in the rivalry series.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:

The Kentucky Wildcats enter Friday's match with a 3-0-1 record after defeating Bellarmine, 7-1, on Sept. 6. Kate Hughes notched just the third hat trick in women's history in the victory and leads the Wildcats with four goals and eight points. has played one common opponent of the Bearcats, . The Wildcats and Spartans fought to a 1-1 tie on Aug. 26 in . UC defeated , 1-0, at home.

Head coach Warren Lipka has been at the helm of the women's soccer program since its inception in 1992. He has amassed a 148-107-18 record at , leading the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament in six of his 13 seasons on the bench. Lipka holds a 6-5-0 record against .

UC-KENTUCKY SERIES HISTORY:

The Bearcats and Wildcats have battled 11 times, with holding a 6-5-0 record in those contests. has won three of the five matches played in . Last season, topped UC, 3-0, in the first match in the newly-renovated Gettler Stadium.

SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS:

Coming off a two-game trip to in which it lost a pair of matches, the women's soccer team returns to its home field this weekend. The Chippewas managed just one goal in their two matches last weekend. They fell to 4-1 in the first match of the trip, then dropped a 2-0 decision to Air Force. Erica Rohren leads CMU with four goals, including the game-winner against , and eight points.

head coach Tony DiTucci, in his second year as the Chippewa mentor, owns a 11-10-4 career record. DiTucci has never faced the Bearcats as a head coach.

UC-CMU SERIES HISTORY:

UC has met four times in its history, including UC's eighth-ever match in 1980. The Bearcats are 3-1-0 against the Chippewas, including a 15-0 victory in 1982. In 2003, CMU earned a 2-1 overtime win in .

UC PICKED EIGHTH:

The Bearcats were chosen to finish eighth in the BIG EAST's Division B in a poll of the BIG EAST head coaches. Defending national champ Notre Dame was unanimously selected to capture the Division B crown, while was tabbed as the Division A favorite. Fellow NCAA qualifiers and Villanova were selected to finish second in Divisions A and B, respectively.

"FRESH" STARTS:

Five freshmen have started each of the first four matches for the Bearcats. Forwards Jenn Johannigman and Kristin May, along with midfielders Chelsea Kindschuh and Lindsey Noteboom earned starting nods. Defender Kim Sykes also started each match along the backline for the Bearcats. Johannigman leads UC with two goals and four points. Kindschuh is second on the team with one goal and one assist for three points. Sykes scored the game winner in UC's 1-0 victory against on Aug. 28. May and Noteboom have each picked up one assist on the season.

SISTER, SISTER:

The Bearcats sport a pair of siblings on their 2005 roster. Redshirt sophomore Amy May is joined by her sister, freshman Kristin. Sophomore Andrea Haney, the team's leading returning scorer, welcomes her sister, Heather, a junior transfer from .

TOUGH SLEDDING:

The Bearcats face one of the most difficult schedules in the country in 2005, the team's first year in the BIG EAST Conference. UC will play six NCAA College Cup qualifiers, including defending national champion Notre Dame. The majority of those contests come on the road, making things even more difficult for UC.
