MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- Kate Norton (Rector, Pa./Greenburg Central Catholic) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick to lead the University of Cincinnati women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Central Michigan this afternoon at the CMU Soccer Complex. The Bearcats even their record at 2-2-2, while CMU falls to 1-3-1.

Norton took UC's first PK of the season after a CMU hand ball at the 27:09 mark. Her shot evaded Central Michigan goalkeeper Anne Decker and gave UC a lead it would not relinquish.

Senior goalkeeper Sherry Slye (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) made one save in recording her second shutout of the season. The Bearcat defense held the Chippewas to eight shots, with only one on goal. UC fired 12 shots, six on goal.

Junior Anna Barrett (Austin, Texas/St. Michael's Academy) saw her first action of the season as the Bearcats used 17 players in the contest.

"It was a battle," stated head coach Meridy Glenn. "Our focus was very good, we stayed very composed. We are very happy about getting a win and a tie (1-1 at Kentucky on Sept. 9) on the road. We are pumped up to come home."

Cincinnati welcomes long-time rival Louisville to Gettler Stadium on Sept. 15 in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. The Bearcats and Cardinals kick off at 7 p.m.
