PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- University of Cincinnati junior men's soccer standout Omar Cummings (Old Harbour, Jamaica/Cincinnati State) has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, announced today by the league. Cummings scored two goals in Cincinnati's 2-0 victory against BIG EAST foe Connecticut, ranked No. 1 nationally by Soccer America, on Sept. 16.
Cummings, a transfer from nearby Cincinnati State, has had an immediate impact on the Bearcats this season, leading the squad with three goals, six points, and 25 shots.
UConn entered the match against Cincinnati with a 4-0 record and had given up just one goal all season. The Bearcats improved to 2-0 in conference play with the win and 2-0 all-time against the Huskies.
Cincinnati leads the BIG EAST's Red Division with a 2-0-1 record.
The Bearcats will hit the road for two tough BIG EAST contests this weekend. UC will take on Marquette on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. and No. 14 Notre Dame at 1 p.m. on Sept. 25.
