DAYTON, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team played No. 10 Ohio State to a 2-2 tie today in the opener of the Nike-Flyer Invitational at Dayton's Bajuan Field. The Bearcats grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first half in moving to 1-1-1 on the season.

UC came out firing as freshman Jenn Johannigman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) scored her second goal of the season just 1:45 into the match. Johannigman drilled a shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the net, staking the Bearcats to a 1-0 lead.

Cincinnati extended its lead in the 28th minute when freshman Chelsea Kindschuh (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) tallied her first career goal. Kindschuh fired a shot just inside the far post from 20 yards out, beating OSU keeper Shannon Neely to stretch the UC lead to 2-0.

Ohio State (2-0-1) got itself back into the match with a Jennifer Greenwood goal at the 40:28 mark. After a Melissa Miller shot was swatted away by Bearcat keeper Sherry Slye (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon), Greenwood put home the rebound to cut the UC lead to 2-1.

The equalizer came in the 75th minute after Lisa Collison took a pass from Emily Francis and beat Slye for her third goal of the season.

In an evenly-played match, UC and OSU each tallied nine shots and eight corner kicks.

"We really played well together today," UC head coach Meridy Glenn said. "We played as a team and with a really positive attitude."
