SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.---Hillery Wilson earned her first top-10 of the season as a final round 76 propelled her to a ninth place finish at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup. The University of Louisville hosted the two-day, 54-hole tournament which concluded on Tuesday at the Cardinal Club Golf Course.
Wilson finished the tournament with a score of 231, including back-to-back rounds of 76. The sophomore finished just three strokes out of eighth and eight away from a top-five finish. Lisbeth Meincke of Georgia State fired a final round 70 to win the tournament by three shots over Kentucky's Erin Faulkner and teammate Anna Scott.
In the team standings, the Bearcats concluded the tournament 11th, the same position they held through 36 holes, after combining for a final round 323. With a total of 972, UC finished 10 shots behind 10th place Southern Miss. Georgia State ran away with the team title with an 894, 13 shots better than Kentucky.
Sophomore Allison Mayborg, playing as an individual, was the second-highest finishing Bearcat, tying for 20th at 235. Mayborg shot a final round 77 to move up to 20th.
The Bearcats will be right back in action this weekend as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to compete in the three-day Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic. Action from the Bay Tree Plantation Golf Course gets underway on Friday (Sept. 23).
