MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team stayed unbeaten in BIG EAST play with a 2-0 win against Marquette tonight at Valley Fields. The Bearcats got a first half penalty kick goal that proved to be enough as UC improved to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. Marquette falls to 3-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in BIG EAST action.

In the 41st minute, Kwame Sarkodie (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) fired a shot off the hand of a Marquette defender in the penalty area, setting up the PK for the Bearcats. Sam Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) took the kick, sliding it inside the left post to stake UC to a 1-0 lead. It was Miller's second goal in as many matches.

The Bearcats owned an 8-4 edge in shots during the first half. They would ice the match in the 79th minute. After a Marquette corner kick was cleared, Mike Dwyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) blasted a long pass down the field. Reigning Soccer America Player of the Week Omar Cummings (Old Harbour, Jamaica/Cincinnati State) outran the Marquette defense and found himself with a one-on-one against MU keeper Andy Kroll. Cummings slipped by a charging Kroll and dribbled the ball into the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the season. Dwyer picked up his second assist on the play.

UC keeper Mike Vessells (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) earned his second shutout of the season, making three saves and lowering his goals against average to 1.24.

With the win, UC remains unbeaten in its last three matches and holds its one point lead over South Florida, winners at West Virginia, in the BIG EAST's Red Division.

Cincinnati will travel to South Bend, Ind. for a match-up with No. 18 Notre Dame, 2-1 winners against Louisville on Friday night, on Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. EST.
