OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Josh Betts passed for 359 yards and three touchdowns, leading Miami to a 44-16 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
Betts, a senior who missed the game's first series for violating an unspecified team rule, completed 22 of 35 passes against a freshman-laden defense.
The win enabled Miami to reclaim the Victory Bell, the prize that goes to the winner of the annual series the schools bill as the oldest Division I-A rivalry west of the Allegheny Mountains. The series began in 1888 and Miami holds a 59-44-7 lead.
Martin Nance had eight receptions for 119 yards and two TDs, and Ryne Robinson caught six passes for 127 yards and another score for the RedHawks (2-2).
Brandon Murphy ran for 110 yards and scored for the RedHawks, who totaled 542 yards on offense.
Miami, which had been giving up 440 yards and 27.3 points a game, didn't have any trouble with the Bearcats' offense.
Cincinnati's Dustin Grutza completed 22 of 39 passes for 199 yards, but threw five interceptions. UC gained just 66 yards on the ground, with Bradley Glatthaar leading the way with 36.
Derick Ross caught seven passes for 57 yards. Cincinnati-native Dominick Goodman caught the first five passes of his career for 64 yards, including a four-yard touchdown from Nick Davila.
Dominic Ross had a team-best 13 tackles and Haruki Nakamura added 12.
The RedHawks scored 24 consecutive points after the Bearcats (2-2) cut a 17-3 halftime deficit to 20-10 midway through the third quarter.
