UC drops to 1-2-1 this season, while the Flyers, 20-2 a season ago, improve to 3-1-0.

UC scored early on Dayton's home field, as sophomore Andrea Haney (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) collected a rebound off the post after a Chelsea Kindschuh (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) shot and put it home to stake the Bearcats to a 1-0 lead just 5:17 into the contest.

Dayton grabbed the momentum just before the half, when Natalia Walters headed in a Courtney Sirmans pass in the 43rd minute to tie the match at one.

Cincinnati and Dayton each fired five shots in the half, while Dayton took four corner kicks to UC's two.

The two squads played scoreless soccer throughout the second half and ovetime seemed imminent until Dayton's Katie Lowstuter served a ball into the box on a restart. Sirmans got her head on it and nudged it by UC goalkeeper Sherry Slye (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) to give Dayton the lead and send the Flyers to just their fourth win all-time against Cincinnati. The Bearcats still hold an 11-4-1 record in the rivalry series.

Dayton outshot Cincinnati, 13-7, in the match and took 10 corners to UC's three.

"We're a young team," said head coach Meridy Glenn. "I thought, playing on the road, that we did a good job. Dayton is a pretty good team."

The Bearcats will take on another local rival, Kentucky, on Friday, Sept. 9 in Lexington. Kickoff between UC and the Wildcats is set for 7 p.m.
