FOR STARTERS:
The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team will wrap up its four-match road trip with two conference clashes. On Oct. 7, the Bearcats will battle Villanova at 4 p.m. in Villanova Soccer Stadium. UC will then head to Washington, D.C. for its first-ever meeting with Georgetown on Oct. 9. The Bearcats and Hoyas kick off from North Kehoe Field at 1 p.m.
BEARCAT BITES:
The Bearcats earned their first-ever BIG EAST Conference win at Providence on Oct. 2, snapping a five-match winless streak with the 1-0 victory.
UC has shutout four opponents this season.
Goalkeeper Sherry Slye has recorded four shutouts this season. She had just one prior to 2005.
The Bearcats have scored nine goals in 12 matches this season. UC scored just 11 goals in 18 matches in 2004.
Freshman Jenn Johannigman leads the Bearcats with three goals this season.
UC's 2005 opponents have combined for a 108-66-37 record (.600) this season.
ABOUT THE BEARCATS:
After dropping a 3-0 decision at No. 16 Connecticut on Sept. 30, UC rebounded for its first BIG EAST win, a 1-0 victory at Providence on Oct. 3. Freshman Kristin May scored her first career goal to lead UC to victory, snapping a five-match winless skid. Goalkeeper Sherry Slye made four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season and second in the last three matches.
Connecticut marked the third ranked opponent the Bearcats have faced this season. Ohio State was ranked No. 10 when UC played the Buckeyes to a 2-2 tie on Sept. 4. Notre Dame, the defending national champions, was ranked No. 6 when it topped UC, 4-0, on Sept. 23.
The Bearcats are led offensively by freshman Jenn Johannigman, who has scored three goals for six points. Andrea Haney has netted a pair of goals for UC. Junior Becky Imhoff and freshman Lindsey Noteboom lead the Bearcats with two assists each. Slye holds a 1.34 goals against average with four shutouts and has made 59 saves.
Head coach Meridy Glenn, in her 23rd year with the Bearcats, holds a 242-160-31 ledger during her tenure. She is 0-0-1 all-time against Villanova and will face Georgetown for the first time.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
After back to back ties on the road last weekend, the Villanova Wildcats enter this weekend with a 6-3-4 overall mark, including an unbeaten 2-0-3 ledger in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats sit in third place in the BIG EAST's Division B with nine points.
Lindsey Finnegan leads the Wildcats with four goals and three assists for 11 points, while Nikki Mayberry has scored three goals and added four assists for 10 points. Of Finnegan's four goals, three have been game-winners. Goalkeeper Jillian Loyden has posted five shutouts and a 0.65 goals against average this season. She has made 55 saves and holds a 4-3-3 record.
Head coach Ann Clifton is 90-49-19 in her eighth season at Villanova. She led the Wildcats to the best season in school history in 2004, winning a school-record 15 contests and making a run to the NCAA Sweet 16.
UC-VILLANOVA SERIES HISTORY:
UC and Villanova will meet for just the second time in the history of the two programs. The new BIG EAST adversaries have not played since 1984, when the two squads battled to a 0-0 tie at Villanova.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS:
Georgetown, fresh off a double overtime loss at Syracuse, enters the weekend with a 10-2-1 overall mark, including a 3-1-1 slate in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas are currently in second place in the BIG EAST's Division B, just two points behind Notre Dame. The loss at Syracuse snapped an eight-match winning streak for the Hoyas.
GU is outscoring its opponents, 25-10 this season and had outscored its foes, 19-4, during the winning streak. The Syracuse loss was the first time all season that the Hoyas were shutout.
Chrissy Skogen is the team's leading scorer with seven goals and 15 points. Sara Jordan (2G, 6A) and Alexandra Hardy (4G, 2A) have each tallied 10 points for the Hoyas. Skogen's seven goals ranks third in the BIG EAST, while Jordan's six assists ranks fourth. Goalkeeper Jade Higgins holds a 0.75 goals against average and has posted six shutouts this season.
A former Georgetown assistant, Dave Nolan is in his second season as head coach with the Hoyas. He holds a 19-11-2 overall record.

New conference opponents, the Bearcats and Hoyas will meet for the first time in 2005.
SLYE SAVES:
Bearcat goalkeeper Sherry Slye posted a career-high 12 saves in her shutout of DePaul on Sept. 25. Slye is third in the BIG EAST with 59 saves through 12 matches.
"FRESH" STARTS:
Five freshmen have made significant contributions through the first 12 matches of the season. Forward Jenn Johannigman, midfielder Lindsey Noteboom and defender Kim Sykes have started each match for the Bearcats. Midfielder Chelsea Kindschuh started the first nine, while forward Kristin May has started 11 of 12. Johannigman leads UC with three goals and six points. Kindschuh and May are tied for third on the team with one goal and one assist apiece. Sykes, who has started every match along the backline, scored the game winner in UC's 1-0 victory against Michigan State on Aug. 28. Noteboom has tallied two assists.
IRON SYKES:
Freshman defender Kim Sykes has started every match along the backline for the Bearcats this season. She has played in 1,138 of a possible 1,144 minutes, meaning she has been on the field for 99.5% of the Bearcats' season. Sykes scored the game-winner in UC's 1-0 victory against Michigan State on Aug. 28, and has anchored a backline that has yielded just three goals in its past three matches.
TOUGH SLEDDING:
The Bearcats face one of the most difficult schedules in the country in 2005, the team's first year in the BIG EAST Conference. UC has six NCAA College Cup qualifiers, including defending national champion Notre Dame, on its schedule. The majority of those contests come on the road, making things even more difficult for UC. UC returns home to close the regular season with a four-match BIG EAST homestand. The Bearcats will welcome No. 9 Marquette on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. South Florida then visits Gettler Stadium for a 1 p.m. tilt on Oct. 16.
