HAMILTON, Ohio---Geoff Newman and Hillery Wilson earned medalist honors, leading the University of Cincinnati golf teams to a second place finish at the Krump Kup. The uniquely scored event which is hosted by Northern Kentucky University, was played at the Hamilton Elks Golf Club.
Newman, playing as an individual, fired a career-low round of 69 to share the top spot with Clint Kohls of NKU. Wilson carded a 74 to win by four strokes over NKU's Bianca Hutton.
In the final Krump Kup standings, NKU pulled out a two stroke victory with a score of 299. The Kup winner is determined by combining the two lowest scores of the men's team and the two lowest of the women's team to crown a victor. Cincinnati won the women's competition by a convincing 27 strokes, while the men placed second.
"I felt like the women's team played pretty well today and its nice to see the guys starting to play a little better," stated head coach Janet Carl. "Hillery (Wilson) continues to have outstanding performances and I am looking for bigger and better things from her in the future."
Kyle Pinger enjoyed a career-low matching 73 to tie for fifth place, while freshman Marianne Erb earned her first top-five finish with a 79 to place third. Allison Mayborg joined Erb and Wilson in the top-five, tying for fourth with an 80.
The women's team will return to the links on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 10-11), when it competes at the Legends of Indiana Shootout. The men's squad is next in action on Oct. 17-18 at the 2005 Tillinghast.
