SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women's golf team, fresh off a win in the Krump Kup, will be back in action this week when it competes in the Legends of Indiana shootout in Franklin, Ind. The 54-hole, two-day event will be held at Franklin's Legends of Indiana Golf Course and is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The Legends of Indiana Golf Course will serve as host for the annual Legends of Indiana Shootout. The event will also provide a good barometer of the Bearcats' status in the BIG EAST as six of the conference's golf playing schools are in the tournament field. Joining the Bearcats for the event will be Ball State, Campbell, Eastern Michigan, Georgetown, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Louisville, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio, Rutgers, Southern Illinois, St. John's and Toledo. The 54-hole, two-day tournament will get underway with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. CT each day. Notre Dame is the defending champion of the annual event.
LAST TIME OUT: Hillery Wilson earned medalist honors to help UC to the women's team title at the Krump Kup, hosted by Northern Kentucky. Wilson carded a round of 74 to win the 18-hole event by four strokes. The Bearcats were dominant in the team competition, shooting a 314 to win by 27 strokes. Freshman Marianne Erb turned in her first career top-five finish when she shot a 79 to finish third. Allison Mayborg joined Erb and Wilson in the top-five, tying for fourth after a round of 80. Chelsa Dooley finished sixth with an 81.
NEW BLOOD: One of the biggest surprises for the Bearcats this season has been the play of freshman Marianne Erb. After making the team as a walk-on, Erb ranks fourth on the team with an average of 80.7. Erb has recorded three consecutive rounds under 80 and earned her first-ever top-five, placing third at last week's Krump Kup.
WHERE SHE LEFT OFF: Sophomore Hillery Wilson, a member of the Conference USA All-Freshman Team last season, picked up where she left off in the Bearcats' opening tournament of 2005. After earning team medalist honors in five of nine tournaments as a freshman, Wilson has been even better this fall. Wilson won her first tournament of the year and second of her career at the recent Krump Kup. She leads the Bearcats with a 75.1 average and holds the squad's lowest round with a 72.
