The of women's soccer team will take on a pair of former Conference rivals this weekend when No. 14 Marquette and invade Gettler Stadium. The Golden Eagles visit on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., while the Bearcats entertain the USF Bulls on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.

BEARCAT BITES:

• The Bearcats earned their first-ever BIG EAST Conference win at on Oct. 2, snapping a five-match winless streak with the 1-0 victory.

• UC has shutout four opponents this season.

• Goalkeeper Sherry Slye has recorded four shutouts this season. She had just one prior to 2005.

• Freshman Jenn Johannigman leads the Bearcats with four goals this season.

• UC's 2005 opponents have combined for a 108-66-37 record (.600) this season.

ABOUT THE BEARCATS:

The Bearcats dropped two BIG EAST road matches last weekend, falling, 2-1, at Villanova on Oct. 7, and 4-0 at on Oct. 9. Freshman Jenn Johannigman scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the loss at Villanova. Junior Becky Imhoff carded her third assist on the tally. Villanova and were a combined 16-5-5 coming into the weekend.

The Bearcats are led offensively by Johannigman, who has scored four goals for eight points. Andrea Haney has netted a pair of goals for UC. Imhoff leads the Bearcats with three assists. Goalkeeper Sherry Slye holds a 1.56 goals against average with four shutouts and has made 73 saves.

Head coach Meridy Glenn, in her 23rd year with the Bearcats, holds a 242-162-31 ledger during her tenure. She is 8-8-1 all-time against and 5-4-0 against .

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:

Fresh off a 2-0 win at , the Marquette Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 12-2-1 overall record and a No. 14 national ranking. is 5-2-0 in BIG EAST play, falling on the road to perennial power and nationally-ranked .

is outscoring its opponents, 25-9, this season and holds a 0.58 goals against average.

Christy Zwolski leads the Golden Eagles with seven goals and 15 points. Alison Loughrin is right behind with six goals and 12 points. Meghan Connelly leads the squad with five assists. Goalkeeper Laura Boyer has had a hand in eight shutouts and holds a 0.59 goals against average.

Head coach Markus Roeders is 155-54-16 in his 10th season at . The Conference USA Coach of the Decade is 7-6-1 against the Bearcats.

UC-MARQUETTE SERIES HISTORY:

The Bearcats and Golden Eagles are very familiar with one another, having matched up at least once in each of the last 12 seasons. UC holds a 9-8-1 overall advantage in the series. The two rivals met five times in the Conference USA Championship match, with UC holding a 4-1 edge in those matchups. was 's first-ever opponent in its inaugural season of 1980. The Bearcats topped MU, 7-0, on their way to a 12-2 record.

SCOUTING THE BULLS:

Winless in its last six matches, enters the weekend with a 5-5-3 overall mark, including a 0-4-3 ledger in conference play. Despite outscoring its opponents, 17-16, on the season, the Bulls have won just once in their last eight matches.

Jenny Mulvihill leads the Bulls with six goals and 12 points. Katie Reed and Michelle Buskey have each tallied four assists for USF. Goalkeeper Casey Garrett has played every minute between the pipes, holding a 1.17 goals against average and five shutouts.

Head coach T. Logan Fleck is in his 11th season with the Bulls. He holds a 89-81-17 mark during his tenure and is 4-5-0 against the Bearcats.

UC-USF SERIES HISTORY:

UC won five of the first seven matches between the two former Conference foes, but USF has captured the last two, including last season's 1-0 win in the final match of the regular season. The Bearcats hold a slim 5-4-0 advantage against the Bulls overall.

SLYE SAVES:

Bearcat goalkeeper Sherry Slye posted a career-high 12 saves in her shutout of DePaul on Sept. 25. Slye is tied for second in the BIG EAST with 73 saves.

"FRESH" STARTS:

Five freshmen have made significant contributions through the first 14 matches of the season. Forward Jenn Johannigman, midfielder Lindsey Noteboom and defender Kim Sykes have started each match for the Bearcats. Midfielder Chelsea Kindschuh started the first nine, while forward Kristin May has started 12 of 14. Johannigman leads UC with four goals and eight points. Kindschuh and May are tied for third on the team with one goal and one assist apiece. Sykes, who has started every match along the backline, scored the game winner in UC's 1-0 victory against on Aug. 28. Noteboom has tallied two assists.

IRON SYKES:

Freshman defender Kim Sykes has started every match along the backline for the Bearcats this season. She has played in 1,318 of a possible 1,324 minutes, meaning she has been on the field for 99.5% of the Bearcats' season. Jen Leiter is closest to Sykes, but has seen only 88.2% of the action.

SISTER, SISTER:

The Bearcats sport a pair of siblings on their 2005 roster. Redshirt sophomore Amy May is joined by her sister, freshman Kristin. Sophomore Andrea Haney, the team's leading returning scorer, welcomes her sister, Heather, a junior transfer from Indiana University.

UP NEXT:

The Bearcats close out the regular season with two BIG EAST home matches next weekend. On Oct. 21, UC hosts Rutgers at 7 p.m. The Bearcats then welcome Seton Hall on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. UC will honor its seniors prior to the Seton Hall match.
