CINCINNATI (AP) - Bradley Glatthaar ran for 123 yards on 15 carries, including a 72-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, to lead Cincinnati to a 28-17 win over Connecticut on Saturday.
Glatthaar also had a 9-yard TD run for the Bearcats (3-3, 1-1 Big East) in their first home game as a member of the conference.
Redshirt freshman D.J. Hernandez was 19-of-43 for 191 yards for Connecticut (4-2, 1-1) and threw touchdown passes of 16 yards to Lou Allen and 13 yards to Seth Fogarty. But he was sacked six times as the Cincinnati defense repeatedly forced him to throw on the run.
Glatthaar's first touchdown with 2:50 left in the first quarter capped an 80-yard drive for Cincinnati. The only other scoring in the first half was a 22-yard field goal by Matt Nuzie for Connecticut, who missed a 37-yarder earlier in the half.
Cincinnati took control with two scores in the first 6 1/2 minutes of the second half, on a 7-yard pass from redshirt freshman Dustin Grutza to Conner Barwin, and 27-yard run by Butler Benton.
Grutza was 9-of-21 for 125 yards.
Turnovers stopped two Connecticut drives in the fourth quarter.
Mike Mickens intercepted a Hernandez pass with 4:46 left, but Cincinnati was unable to make a first down and had to punt.
The Huskies put together a 71-yard drive on eight plays, capped by the scoring pass from Hernandez to Fogarty, to pull within 28-17 with 2:40 remaining.
Connecticut recovered the ensuing onside kick at the 50. But five plays later, Hernandez fumbled at the Bearcats' 40. Kevin McCullough recovered and Cincinnati was able to run out the remaining 1:07.
