The women's soccer team will wrap up its regular season this weekend with a pair of BIG EAST home matches. On Oct. 21, the Bearcats play host to at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, is Senior Day at Gettler Stadium. will honor its six seniors prior to the 12 p.m. kickoff against Seton Hall.
BEARCAT BITES:
has scored 15 goals through 16 matches this season. The Bearcats netted just 11 goals in 18 matches in 2004.
On Oct. 14, UC scored three goals but lost to No. 14 Marquette, 4-3. The last time UC scored three goals and lost was in 2000, a 4-3 loss at .
Two Bearcats scored their first goals for UC last weekend. Junior Heather Haney scored UC's second goal in the 4-3 loss to No. 14 Marquette. Classmate Jen Leiter tallied her first marker in a 3-2 (ot) loss against .
The Bearcats earned their first-ever BIG EAST Conference win at on Oct. 2.
Goalkeeper Sherry Slye has recorded four shutouts this season. She had just one prior to 2005.
Freshman Jenn Johannigman leads the Bearcats with six goals this season.
BIG EAST TOURNAMENT OUTLOOK:
will need some help to make its first appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament. UC must win both matches this weekend and receive some help from rival , and Villanova. The Bearcats are currently six points back of Seton Hall for the final seed in the tournament. With two wins and a Seton Hall loss at , the Bearcats would pull even with the Pirates and hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both and Villanova must win at DePaul to allow the Bearcats to jump over the Blue Demons for the final spot.
ABOUT THE BEARCATS:
dropped a pair of one-goal matches last weekend. On Oct. 14, the Bearcats fell, 4-3, to No. 14 Marquette. scored three goals in a loss for the first time since a 4-3 loss at during the 2000 season. Freshman Jenn Johannigman scored twice and Heather Haney tallied her first career goal in the loss. Two days later, the Bearcats dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to . Haney scored for the second straight match and junior Jen Leiter scored her first career goal.
The Bearcats' 15 goals through 16 matches are four more than they scored in 18 contests in 2004. UC is led offensively by Johannigman, who has scored six goals for 12 points. Sisters Andrea and Heather Haney have each netted a pair of goals for UC. Junior Becky Imhoff leads the Bearcats and is tied for fifth in the BIG EAST with six assists. Goalkeeper Sherry Slye holds a 1.78 goals against average with four shutouts and has made 84 saves.
Head coach Meridy Glenn, in her 23rd year with the Bearcats, holds a 242-164-31 ledger during her tenure. She is 1-2-0 against and will square off against Seton Hall for the first time.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS:
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights enter the weekend riding a three-match winning streak after knocking off BIG EAST foes Syracuse (1-0) and St. John's (3-0) last weekend. The Scarlet Knights sit in sixth place in the BIG EAST's Division B.
is outscoring its opponents, 12-5, over the last six matches (4-1-1). Despite its 7-9-1 record, RU has outshot its opponents, 152-110, on the season.
Kristen Edmonds and Domenique Esposito lead the Scarlet Knights with five goals apiece. has added six assists for 16 points, while Esposito has posted 14 points (5G, 4A). Goalkeeper Nora Crawford has posted a 0.99 goals against average with four shutouts this season.
Head coach Glenn Crooks is 59-51-12 in his sixth seson with . He has never faced .
UC-RUTGERS SERIES HISTORY:

SCOUTING THE PIRATES:
After starting the season 4-1-1, the Seton Hall Pirates won just three of their next 10 matches. SHU is 1-3-1 in its last five matches, being outscored, 16-7, during that span.
The Pirates have outshot opponents, 244-171, this season, and have scored 28 goals.
Rita Massot is the Pirates' leading goal scorer with five markers. Meagan Dewan (4G, 4A) and Katie Herr (4G, 3 A) have posted 12 and 11 points, respectively to lead the squad. Amanda Becker has four shutouts and a 1.49 goals against average in goal for SHU.
In her 12th season as head coach at Seton Hall, Betty Ann Kempf-Townsley holds a 96-107-14 record. The only coach in the history of women's soccer at SHU, Kempf-Townsley will face for the first time this season.

New divisional rivals, and Seton Hall will square off for the first time in their histories.
BIG EAST HONORS TWO BEARCATS:
Junior Heather Haney and freshman Jenn Johannigman were named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for their efforts during the week ending on Oct. 16. Both scored twice during the weekend, including the first two markers of Haney's career. Johannigman leads the Bearcats with six goals.
FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME:
A trio of Bearcats recorded firsts last weekend. Senior defender Ashley Roush, who has played in 48 matches in her career, posted her first point as a Bearcat with an assist against No. 14 Marquette on Oct. 14. Junior Jen Leiter scored the first goal of her collegiate career, giving UC a 2-1 lead against on Oct. 16. Junior transfer Heather Haney scored the first goal of her career against and added her second two days later against USF.
"FRESH" STARTS:
Five freshmen have made significant contributions through the first 16 matches of the season. Forward Jenn Johannigman and defender Kim Sykes have started each match for the Bearcats. Lindsey Noteboom and Krisin May have started 15 of 16, while Chelsea Kindschuh has gotten the start in 14 of 15. Johannigman leads UC with six goals and 12 points. May is fifth on the team with one goal and two assists. Kindschuh has posted a goal and an assist, while Noteboom has tallied two assists. Sykes, who has played nearly every minute along the backline, scored the game winner in UC's 1-0 victory against on Aug. 28.
IRON SYKES:
Freshman defender Kim Sykes has started every match along the backline for the Bearcats this season. She has played in 1,507 of a possible 1,513 minutes, meaning she has been on the field for 99.5% of the Bearcats' season. Jen Leiter is closest to Sykes, but has seen only 88.2% of the action.
