CINCINNATI, Ohio -- University of Cincinnati student-athletes representing many of its 18 varsity sports will continue their annual involvement with national Make a Difference Day from Oct. 19 to Oct. 22.
UC's participation in Make a Difference Day is an annual project organized by the Committee To Promote Athletic Welfare and Success, a student-athlete run organization. C.P.A.W.S. was recognized by the Cincinnati Enquirer twice in the past for its efforts and received national recognition from USA Today for its work last year.
The big project on Saturday, Oct. 22 involves a group of student-athletes who will be helping with the "Clifton Clean Up" from 9 a.m. to Noon. They will join many other groups cleaning up the neighborhoods surrounding the UC campus. C.P.A.W.S. student-athletes will also be working on a beautification of Classen Park as part of the event. The park is located at the corner of Jefferson Ave. and Calhoun St., adjacent to the UC campus.
Also on Saturday, the women's soccer team will be helping with the Cincinnati TOP Soccer Fall Classic from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. TOP Soccer is a national soccer program created to train young people with disabilities in a caring coaching environment. At the Fall Classic, the Cincinnati chapter joins with Dayton TOP Soccer and enjoys soccer, food, rides, and other excitement. The event is at Wall2Wall Soccer in Mason.
On Wednesday, Oct. 19 the UC golf teams will kick off the Make a Difference Day projects when they visit Corryville Catholic School to talk to students about the value of education. Then on Friday, Oct. 21, student-athletes will be at Children's Hospital from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. filling Halloween goody bags for patients.
Make a Difference Day has been celebrated for 15 years across the nation as a day to do something for the betterment of other people and society. This is the seventh year C.P.A.W.S. has participated. More information on Make a Difference Day is available at www.makeadifferenceday.com.
