SETTING THE SCENE: The University of Cincinnati women's rowing team continues its fall season when it competes in the Head of the Elk on Sunday, Oct. 30. The event, which will be held on the St. Joseph River in Elkhart, Ind., is being hosted by the Indiana Rowing Association and gets underway at 9 a.m.

ABOUT THE BEARCATS: The Bearcats, with the leadership of new head coach Pam Mork, return a total of 17 letterwinners from last season's squad. Mork, just the second head coach in the program's varsity history, will also enjoy the contributions of 24 newcomers. Sophomore coxswain Liz Johnson is one of the top returnees on the Bearcats' roster, having helped UC's varsity eight to an 18th place finish at last year's NCAA Central/South Regional Championships. Other top athletes dotting the UC roster include seniors Taryn Dyle and Katie Herman and juniors Sara Clayton, Emily Fox, Andrea Hedlund and Sarah Lautenslager.

NEW LEADER: During the off-season, Cincinnati named the second head coach in program history with the hiring of Pam Mork. Mork, a former assistant at Notre Dame, named former Gonzaga aide Sandy Calfo as her top assistant, giving UC all-new leadership for the 2005-06 season.
