WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team dropped its second straight BIG EAST match, falling, 4-0, against Georgetown this afternoon at North Kehoe Field. The Bearcats fall to 3-8-3 overall and 1-5-1 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown moves to 11-3-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference action.
Georgetown posted two goals in each half in sporting its team-record seventh shutout of the season. The Hoyas jumped on top in the 20th minute after Shara McNiell headed in a Karen Waskewich corner kick. GU added to the lead with a little help from the Bearcats. In the 26th minute, Elaina Filauro fired a shot that deflected off Cincinnati defender Ashley Roush (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) for an own goal.
The Hoyas went to the half with a 2-0 lead, an 8-4 edge in shots, and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The second half was more of the same, as GU scored twice in a five minute span to put the match away. Filauro scored in the 63rd minute to increase the lead to 3-0. Just under five minutes later, Chrissy Skogan scored from inside the box to round out the Georgetown attack.
Cincinnati goalkeeper Sherry Slye (Cincinnati, Ohio/Roger Bacon) made six saves, but was bettered by the GU duo of Jade Higgins and Christina Rourke, who combined for four saves and Georgetown's seventh shutout of the year.
The Bearcats finished with 10 shots, but got only five on goal, while Georgetown fired just 15 shots, but put 10 on mark.
Cincinnati returns home for four straight matches to finish the regular season On Friday, Oct. 14, the Bearcats welcome former Conference USA rival Marquette at 7 p.m.
