TOLEDO, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati women's swimming and diving team suffered its first dual meet loss of the young season this afternoon (Nov. 4), falling 128-108 to Toledo at the UT Student Recreation Center. The Bearcats won eight events, including a victory in the 200 medley relay.
UC senior Ann Degenstein (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) captured two event titles, touching the wall first in the 200 (1:52.37) and 500 (5:06.84) freestyles. Freshman Annelie Jonsson (Skurup, Sweden/Osterportskolan) won the 400 IM (4:27.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.49), giving her four first-place finishes in four races this season. Jonsson's time in the 400 IM broke a pool record at the UT Student Recreation Center.
Other Cincinnati winners included Paola Rivas (Mexico City, Mexico/Mission Viejo), who grabbed her second consecutive 1,000 freestyle title in 10:24.15. Randi Vogel (Maineville, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) and Karen Brasier (Galveston, Texas/Ball) earned titles in the 100 backstroke (58.09) and 100 butterfly (56.32), respectively.
The Bearcat men and women will host their first home meet of the 2005-06 season on Saturday, Nov. 5, taking on Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. at Silverlake Recreation Center in Erlanger, Ky.
