CINCINNATI, Ohio---LaFringe Hayes scored on Josh Harrison's double in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game-winning run, leading the Red Team to a series-clinching victory, 7-6, over the Black Team during game four of the University of Cincinnati's Fall World Series on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Team plated two runs in the inning against Chase Lampl to seal the victory. Keith Kampe led the inning off with a walk and a stolen base and ultimately scored on Hayes' RBI fielder's choice. With the hit-and-run on, Harrison lined a two-bagger just inside the left field line to score Hayes with the game-winner.
Jon DeLuca led the winners with three RBI, including a two-run double. Hayes scored three times, while Nick Maragas had two runs. Kevin Schrader added a pair of base hits.
On the mound, Nick Buscemi picked up the victory after working the final three innings in relief of Schrader. Buscemi allowed the Black Team two runs on two hits, while walking four, but the junior also struck out four.
The Black Team got a pair of RBI from Jack Nelson and two runs each from Adam Yeager and Mark Muscenti. Both Yeager and Muscenti added two hits each. Lampl took the loss in the game, surrendering four runs on five hits in two innings.
The Red Team scored first, plating three in the bottom of the first against Kyle Rapp. After Hayes walked and Harrison reached on an error, Maragas drove home the latter with a double to left center. DeLuca followed with his two-bagger to stake Red to a 3-0 lead.
After the strong start, neither team could score again until the Black team evened the score with three in the fourth. Yeager, Muscenti and Neall French tallied three straight singles, with the final one scoring Yeager. One out later, Nelson reached on a two-base error that scored Muscenti and Brian Szarmach followed with an RBI groundout.
The Red squad pulled back in front in the fifth with two runs, one on a DeLuca RBI single and the other courtesy of a throwing error by Muscenti.
The sixth inning saw the Black squad pull into the lead for the first time with three runs. With Buscemi on the hill, Yeager started with an infield single and later stole second. After a walk and a hit by pitch, Dustin Alvey knocked a single through the left side and Nelson walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at five. A double play and a walk later, Buscemi walked walk-on John Virostko with the bases still loaded to force in the go-ahead run.
The final game of the series will mark the end of the Bearcats' fall practice session and will take place on Sunday. First pitch from the UC Baseball Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
