CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Adam Roberts took the top honors at the University of Cincinnati postseason awards banquet.

Roberts was the recipient of the Claude Rost Award as the Bearcats' Most Valuable Player. The senior defensive end from Brooklyn, N.Y. (Milford Academy) was also presented the John Pease Award as the Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman, and garnered the Iron Man Award as the hardest working in strength training. Roberts led UC in tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (6.0).

Steve Eastlake (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) earned the John Pease Award as the Most Outstanding Offensive lineman. The senior concluded his career with a streak of 34 consecutive starts at left tackle.

Sophomore Bradley Glatthaar (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), the Bearcats' leading rusher and scorer with 620 yards and seven touchdowns, was presented the Brig Owens Award as the Most Outstanding Offensive Back. Freshman outside linebacker Corey Smith (Salem, N.J./Salem) earned the Brig Owens Award as the Most Outstanding Defensive Back. Smith finished third on the team in tackles with 64 in nine games.

Brent Celek (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the Most Outstanding Receiver Award. The junior tight end had 32 catches for 361 yards and three TDs. Seniors Chet Ervin (Sulphur, Ky./Henry County), who established career records for punts and punting yards, and Donald Germany (Columbus, Ohio/Brookhaven), who performed on many kicking teams, were named Special Teams Players of the Year.

Redshirt freshman Dustin Grutza (Maysville, Ky./Mason County), who completed 56 percent of his passes for 1,799 yards and 11 touchdowns, was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year. True freshmen Mike Mickens (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne), who finished second nationally in passes defended from his cornerback spot, Terrill Byrd (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), who started all 11 games at defensive tackle, and Trevor Anderson (Detroit, Mich./Crockett Technical), who made eight starts at defensive end, shared the Defensive Newcomer of the Year award.

Junior Tony Carvitti (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was presented the C Club Strothman Award for Academic excellence. Senior offensive guard Ryan Brown (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) and junior safety Dominic Ross (Marion, Ohio/Harding) were recipients of the Jim Kelly Coaches Spirit awards. Freshmen Jared Martin (Green Springs, Ohio/Clyde) and Donnell McKenzie (Aliquippa, Pa./Aliquippa) were honored as the offensive and defensive scout teams players of the year.
