CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati freshman Devan Downey has earned BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week honors for his efforts in the Bearcats' 92-83 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Downey scored 18 points, 16 in the second half of Saturday's win, and tied a career high with four assists. The 5-10 point guard from Chester, S.C. also held Vanderbilt senior Mario Moore, a preseason All-Southeastern Conference selection, to five points, half of his season average.
Cincinnati plays three home games in the next week. The Bearcats host Ohio on Dec. 14 in an 8 p.m. contest. Tennessee Tech and Arkansas-Monticello visit Fifth Third Arena on Dec. 17 and Dec. 19, respectively, in 7 p.m. games that are part of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic.
