COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Redshirt freshman Jessie Nevitt became the third All-American in University of Cincinnati volleyball history when she earned honorable mention accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Wednesday.

Nevitt has enjoyed a fall full of awards, including being tabbed the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and earning a slot on the league's all-conference first team. She was also a first team all-region selection by the AVCA. During the season, Nevitt picked up the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week award five times, matching the league record for a single year.

Nevitt wrapped up her first season of collegiate competition leading the Bearcats in both hitting (.337) and blocks per game (1.38), ranking among the BIG EAST top-five in both categories. She was also third on the Bearcats in kills per game (3.11), while ranking second with 40 service aces.

This marks the third consecutive year that UC has sported a volleyball All-American as Nevitt follows in the footsteps of Julie DuPont and Laura Lauder. DuPont was a third team All-American in 2003, the same year that Lauder picked up honorable mention honors. A year later, DuPont was tabbed honorable mention All-American during her senior season.

UC concluded the 2005 season with its 11th consecutive 20-win season, as the Bearcats posted a 20-12 overall mark. Cincinnati finished the regular season tied for fourth in the BIG EAST, before advancing to the tournament semi-finals in its inaugural year as a member of the league.
