CINCINNATI, Ohio--The University of Cincinnati's two-time defending National Champion dance team, along with the Bearcats' cheerleading squads, will compete this weekend in the 2006 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at Walt Disney World's Wide World of Sports.
UC, which has taken the number one position in the hip-hop competition each of the past two years, will be out for an unprecedented third straight championship. The Bearcats will also compete in the Division IA Dance competition. The Bearcat cheerleaders will also be competing, with both the all-girl and co-ed squads in action.

"We are really excited to be returning to national competition as we try to again defend our national title," stated UC dance coach Lisa Spears. "We have another strong team this year that has been working really hard to make an impact at the competition again this year."
"We are excited to be competing once again on the national level," added UC cheerleading coach Tabby Fagan. "Right now, we are just putting the finishing touches on our routines and we look forward to going to the competition and making Cincinnati proud."
While the competition gets underway on Friday (Jan. 13), Cincinnati won't hit the stage until Saturday morning with the semi-finals of the All-Girl Cheer competition at 8 a.m. The Division IA Dance semi-finals begin at 11 a.m., followed by the hip-hop semis at 3:30. The opening day closes at 9 p.m. with the Division IA Cheer preliminaries.
In addition to last season's national title, UC's dance squad took fourth place in the Division IA dance finals. The all-girl cheer squad brought home seventh place honors, while the co-ed team was 15th. In the competition, Cincinnati was one of only two schools to have teams compete in the finals of all four categories.
