Bearcats Fall at Ohio State in Spring Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Cincinnati women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 loss to Ohio State at the Jesse Owens West Recreation Center Saturday.

In singles, the Buckeyes at the top four positions all posted straight-set victories, while Nos. 5 and 6 won by default. Ohio State also downed the Bearcats in all three doubles positions, with a default victory at No. 3.

At the No. 1 spot, Sonia Ruzimovsky swept sophomore Lindsay Willeford by a score of 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Caitlin O'Keefe defeated Elizabeth Young by a count of 6-1, 6-0. Julie Blackmore beat Jenny Rowen, 6-2, 6-2, to come away with a victory in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, Ciara Finucane defeated Madison Reasoner, 6-0, 6-0. The Bearcats, shorthanded due to injuries to several players, defaulted the final two spots.

In doubles, the duo of Messmer and Finucane defeated Willeford and Rowen by a score of 8-4. O'Keefe and Blackmore beat Young and Reasoner, 8-1.
