PITTSBURGH-The University of Cincinnati women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon at the Club 4 Life recreational center. It was the first BIG EAST match for the Bearcats and the first of the dual season with a full line-up.
UC dropped to 0-4 on the year while Pitt is 1-0. UC faces West Virginia on Sunday in Morgantown.
In singles play Kristy Borza defeated UC's Elizabeth Young, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 in a battle of freshmen. Lindsay Willeford earned a 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Kim Harclerode, while senior Jill Klauck, playing in her first dual of the season, topped Emily Hughes, 7-5, 6-2, at the N. 4 spot.
The Bearcats were on the other side of a three-setter when Christie D'Achille outlasted Madison Reasoner, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. Freshmen Jenny Rowen at No. 3 and Carling Arundel at No. 5 suffered tough defeats.
Pitt swept the doubles action, with the closest match being an 8-5 decision at No. 2 of Harclerode and Carlie Smith over Hannah Hinton and Young.
