KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Cincinnati tennis team picked up three match wins on Saturday, but fell to Marquette, 5-2, at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich.
In doubles, Hannah Hinton and Eliaabeth Young teamed at No. 3 to beat andrea Bukacek and Erin Watkins, 8-4, for UC's first dual doubles win of the season. The Eagles won at Nos. 1 and 2 to claim the doubles point.
The middle of the lineup was the strongest for the Bearcats in singles play. Freshman Jenny Rowen took Dominika Dabrowski to three sets at No. 3 before falling, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Then Jill Klauck earned her team-leading seventh win, beating Francina Bonnelly at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 5, freshman Carling Arundel outlasted Andrea Bukacek, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The Bearcats host their first match of the spring on Wednesday, March 1 when Ball State comes to town. The match will be at 1 p.m. at either the new UC Tennis Center or the Queen City Racquet Club, depending on the weather.
