WILDER, -- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team opened its 2006 spring season in the Ohio Elite Tournament at the Town and Country Sports Club on Saturday (Feb. 25). The Bearcats won their first match of the day against the Ohio Elite U-17 club team, 2-0, and battled crosstown rival Xavier to a 1-1 tie in their second contest.
In the first match of the day, the Bearcats were victorious against the Ohio Elite, scoring their first goal off of a set piece 36 minutes into the match. Kate Norton took a free kick which landed on the foot of Jessica Legg. Legge then served a cross into the box which was trapped by Lindsey Noteboom, who turned and fired the ball into the back of the net, giving UC a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Amy May put the match away with a left-footed shot which soared past Ohio Elite's keeper, producing the final margin. UC's defense got the ball to midfielder Becky Imhoff, who served the ball into the 18 to a running May who sealed the match for the Bearcats.
A foul in the box by UC in the first half gave XU a penalty kick in the second match. The Musketeers converted and took a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Bearcats rallied in the second half as Imhoff penetrated Xavier's defense and beat the Muskie keeper to the far post to tie the game, 1-1. UC's Andrea Bouldin, who transferred from , finished with five saves to lead the Bearcats.
UC will continue its 2006 spring season on April 2nd as they travel to UC will play at 12 p.m. followed by a matchup with at 2 p.m.
