ORLANDO, Fla.---Marianne Erb shot a career-low 73 leading the University of Cincinnati women's golf team in its opening round of the spring season Monday at the UCF Invitational. The two-day event, hosted by the University of Central Florida, is being played at the Stoneybrook Golf Club.
Erb, a walk-on to the Bearcat program prior to the year, finished the first round of the tournament two strokes below her career-best. The performance was good enough to put the freshman in a tie for sixth place, just five strokes back of a five-way tie for medalist honors.
Sophomore Hillery Wilson, UC's leading player in the fall, carded a first round 78, her highest total since shooting a 79 in the opening round of the season-opening Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup last September. Wilson finds herself tied for 28th overall through 18 holes.
In the team standings, UC sits ninth after totaling 311 on Monday. The Bearcats are just one shot back of eighth place Jacksonville and seven strokes behind fifth place Mercer. Rollins College holds the top spot with a first round 294.
Play concludes from Stoneybrook Golf Club, beginning on Tuesday morning.
