, -- University of senior swimming standout Ann Degenstein (The Woodlands, /The Woodlands) has been officially invited to compete at the 2006 NCAA Swimming Championships, to be held on March 16-18 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the .
Degenstein has qualified to swim both the 100 and 200 butterfly events as well as the 500 freestyle. She is the school record holder in both butterfly events and finished 11th and 14th, respectively, at the 2005 NCAA Championships.
A CSCAA Academic All-American in 2005, Degenstein's 53.51 in the 100 fly currently ranks eighth in the country, while her 1:58.28 in the 200 fly is the seventh-best mark in the nation. She was the BIG EAST champion in both 100 and 200 butterfly events and finished fourth in the 500 free.
Degenstein will represent , one of just five women's programs affiliated with the BIG EAST to send a student athlete to the NCAA Championships. BIG EAST champion Notre Dame, , and Villanova will also be represented.
