Bearcat Women Accept Inviation to WNIT

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2006 Postseason WNIT. The Bearcats, who are making their eighth postseason appearance in the last nine years, will face Florida International on Thursday, March 16 in Miami, Fla. at 7 p.m. in an opening round contest.

UC is 17-11 this season, an eight-game improvement from last year, in its first year in the BIG EAST. Fellow conference members Villanova, Pittsburgh and Marquette were also named to the 40-team field. The winner of Thursday's game will face Miami in a first round game on Saturday, March 18.

This is the Bearcats' 10th postseason appearance all-time and sixth in the WNIT. UC last appeared in the tournament in 2004.

FIU is 18-12 this season and finished third in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference. UC and the Golden Panthers have never met.
