Like a lot of college students, the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team has traveled to Florida for spring break. Unlike most college students, the Bearcats are preparing for the upcoming fall season with two-a-day training sessions and matches against the U.S. U-17 National Team, Central Florida, and Rollins College. Over the next six days, the UC players will share their experiences through the UC Soccer Spring Break Diaries. Today's entry was submitted by Kevin Schrand.
At 7 a.m. we were all woken up for the beginning of our last full day in . There was a sense of urgency with all of us as we hurried to prepare and set off for a full day of soccer ahead. We all gathered around 8 and headed for , two vans full of players and coaches, with our loyal fans following behind. I think most of us caught up on a little sleep as we headed north, the NCAA tournament games may have kept a few of us up last night. Making one quick stop for a restroom break, we got to 's campus at around 11:16. As per our usual pre-game meal this week, we stopped at a local Subway for nourishment. After an unplanned tour of the campus, we finally found our way to the game field on campus. We were a little early, and took advantage of the time to enjoy the beautiful weather. Today was gorgeous compared to the previous two days of rain and gloom. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and a nice breeze from the east kept us cool. The team was excited and ready for today's games; after all, that is why we came to . The first game ended up in a 1-1 tie with UCF. Then after a very short break, we played our second foe; . Another tie was the final result, with the score being 0-0 this time around. We were all exhausted and a little disappointed with the results, but overall it was a good day. We worked on some important parts of our game as a team, and we all put forth a lot of effort and showed a lot of resolve today. No major injuries were incurred; just some small bumps and bruises from playing hard. Kenny, of course, didn't get pushed around by anybody, and even did a little pushing himself. We all played well, but I think Kwame played exceptionally well today, capping off the day with our only goal. One other note of importance is Collin's first official cap today. He played well, earning a shutout in his first appearance on the field. Tired yet content, we all ate some pizza at Giovanni's pizzeria before we headed home. It was a good meal for the ride home, and a nice reminder of our former teammate. So as the day winds down, we're all resting and anxiously awaiting our hotel so we can clean up and go to sleep. It's been a great trip and none of us want to head back to and the cold weather which will surely be awaiting us. Schrand - Out.
