, -- The University of Cincinnati women's soccer team will participate in the 2006 Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational on April 8 at . The eight-team tournament has been designed to increase awareness for breast cancer and raise funds for the .
The entry fee for the tournament is a minimum $100 donation. The Bearcats have raised over $500 that will be donated to the center.
"I certainly think breast cancer is a great cause," stated head coach Meridy Glenn. "We all have a sister, a mother, somebody, that has been affected by breast cancer. Our athletic department and administration has been very supportive and we are happy to contribute to help this cause."
The is dedicated to improving the health of the women of and the surrounding region in a warm, comfortable environment that is sensitive to women's needs. The center's goal is to obtain accurate screening and diagnostic results and treatment with minimal impact on a woman's body.
The eight squads will be separated into two groups. UC is in group one, which includes , and a team to be announced. Group two consists of Duquesne, , and . The teams will play each of the schools in their group once in a 40 minute match. The winner of each group will play in the championship game, which is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
"Our team is really excited to be able to not only play in this tournament, but to be able to raise money for a cause like breast cancer," junior Rachael Epps, the women's soccer team's Student Athlete Advisory Committee representative, said. "We felt this was a good way for us to give back to the community."
