CINCINNATI, Ohio -- New head coach Mick Cronin has made three appointments to his University of Cincinnati coaching staff. Larry Davis, head coach at Furman the past nine years, has been appointed associate head coach.
Chris Goggin, who has been an assistant under Cronin at Murray State the past three years, will rejoin his boss as an assistant at UC. Matt Grady, also an assistant at Murray State, will become director of basketball operations.
Cronin will hire another assistant coach, a video coordinator and a graduate assistant.
"I am extremely pleased to have these three join the Bearcat family," stated Cronin. "All three are proven in their ability to recruit, develop players and coach. Just as important, they are quality individuals of the highest character who will be major assets in attracting players to our program and developing them."
Davis is the veteran of the staff with 23 seasons of college coaching plus three more on the high school ranks. During his nine seasons at Furman, he compiled a 124-139 record. Prior stops include three seasons as an assistant at Minnesota (1994-97), where he recruited a pair of All-Americans and helped the Golden Gophers reach postseason play three times; a season at Ball State (1993-94); four years at Wake Forest (1989-93), where he helped the Demon Deacons to three NCAA Tournament berths, and four years at Delaware (1985-89).
Davis launched his career as a graduate assistant at East Tennessee State following his graduation from Asbury College in 1978. He was a high school head coach for three seasons, two at Oak Hill Academy where he compiled a 51-9 ledger, before returning to the college ranks.
Goggin launched his professional career with the Bearcats, serving as video coordinator and administrative assistant for five years. In his role as video coordinator, he was responsible for gathering and breaking down tapes on UC's foes. As administrative assistant, he helped plan practices and assisted in the production of recruiting materials.
During his three seasons at Murray State, Goggin was involved in recruiting, on-the-floor coaching and scouting and he coordinated the team's scheduling and travel.
A 1998 graduate of the University of Toledo, Goggin served as a student-assistant coach for the Rockets his final two years at the school.
Grady was responsible for all aspects of the program during his three seasons on the Murray State staff. He accompanied Cronin to the Racers after serving as graduate assistant at Louisville for two seasons, where his primary responsibility was coordinating all aspects of the video operations.
Grady was a member of the St. Joseph's basketball program as an undergraduate and began his coaching career as a student assistant under Phil Martelli, before graduating in 2001.
