CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Deonta Vaughn, a two-time Indiana all-state selection who starred this past season at Harmony Community School in Cincinnati, has signed a national letter-of-intent to continue his basketball and academic careers at the University of Cincinnati.

A 6-1 backcourt ace who can play at either guard position, Vaughn averaged 17.4 points, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds this past season at Harmony, where he played for former Bearcat Rodney Crawford.

Originally from Indianapolis, Vaughn earned first team all-state honors his junior and senior seasons at Arlington High. He attended Harmony to strengthen his academics.

"Deonta is a great addition to our program," stated UC head coach Mick Cronin. "He is a strong guard who can score as well as distribute the ball. I love his competitiveness and toughness.

"As our fans know, guards from Indianapolis have had a lot of success here in the past. We have a statue of one of the greatest right outside our arena," added Cronin, referring to Oscar Robertson.

Vaughn is the fifth member of Cincinnati's signing class and the first from the high school ranks. The Bearcats previously secured the commitments of Tim Crowell, who averaged 7.5 assists at Midland College en route to first team all-league honors last season; Marvin Gentry, a 6-3 guard who was the conference's player of the year at McLennan Community College; John Williamson, a 6-6 forward who was a first team All-American selection at Cincinnati State; and Jamual Warren, an NJCAA second team All-American at the Globe Institute of Technology.
