OXFORD, Ohio---Hillery Wilson's round two comeback came up one shot short as Cincinnati's sophomore star finished second at the UC/UD Invitational which concluded on Tuesday at the Hueston Woods Golf Course. Wilson overcame a five-shot deficit after one round of play, finishing just one stroke back of Butler's Lynnsey Showers in the battle for medalist honors.
After carding a round of 80 in Monday's frigid temperatures, Wilson bounced back to fire a 75 on Tuesday and end the tournament at 155. Showers opened play with a 75, but slipped to 79 in the finale, narrowly grabbing the top spot. Showers' play helped Butler to the team title by 14 strokes over UC.
Junior Mya Pronschinske also enjoyed a strong day on Tuesday for the Bearcats, shooting an 80 to secure her first top-five finish of the year in fifth place. Pronschinske finished at 163, one stroke in front of teammate Allison Mayborg. The latter finished the tournament with an 80 on Tuesday. Freshman Sarah Stamper enjoyed a career-day, knocking 15 shots off her opening round score to end at a career-best 80.
The Bearcats are now idle until April 14-15, when they travel to Urbana, Ill. for the Illini Spring Classic. That tournament will be UC's final tune-up for its first-ever BIG EAST Championship April 23-25.
