, -- Six 2005 NCAA Tournament teams, including national semifinalist Southern Methodist, highlight the 2006 men's soccer schedule.

"We have put together a challenging non-conference schedule that will prepare us for the rigors of BIG EAST play," head coach Hylton Dayes said. "From our exhibition matches to our final conference game, we will be tested. Hopefully, our experience and preparation will help us be ready to meet those challenges."

UC opens with three exhibition matches, taking on IUPUI on Aug. 14 and at the IPFW Soccer Showcase on Aug. 17. A home date with follows on Aug. 20 before the regular season opener against crosstown rival Xavier on Aug. 25.

UC will play three NCAA qualifiers at Gettler Stadium, beginning with Bradley in the home opener on Aug. 29. National power Notre Dame will make a trip to Cincinnati on Sept. 17 and former Conference USA rival South Florida, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, will visit on Oct. 7.

On Sept. 1-2, the Bearcats will travel to , for the SMU Mustang Invitational. UC will take on Southern Methodist, who fell to eventual-champion in the 2005 national semifinals, and Florida International in the two-day tournament.

UC will open BIG EAST play on the road at on Sept. 8. The Bearcats BIG EAST home opener will be on Sept. 15 against .

Rival will visit Gettler Stadium on Sept. 27, and UC will also play host to BIG EAST power (Oct. 14).

The 2006 BIG EAST Tournament will open on campus sites on Oct. 25-26, with the semifinals and finals being held on the campus of on Nov. 3 and Nov. 5, respectively.
